Hide Your Track Online

Dear valued reader,

"Mom, what is this?"

Imagine your child saying above phrases because he found some 'bad' sites from your computer.

Don't you afraid someone will use your computer and track where you've been surfing online? Imagine you've surfed 'restricted' sites and someone uses your computer and he or she knew where you've been surfing by looking at your history.

You're a father and accidentally you surfed some bad sites. Of course you don't want your child to look at the same website. So,how you can hide your track?

I give you one quick tip, just delete your history or cache. In order to do this, you can go to tools-> internet options -> Delete browsing history -> delete history (assuming you're using IE).

For extra security, you can delete your temporary internet files, cookies, form data or passwords using the same step as above. using this step, you can rest assured your child won't be exposed to bad sites even if he or she knows where are your history pages located.

Browser Hijacker

I was browsing the internet last week when my homepage (Yahoo at that time) changed to a website that I don't know. Then I changed it again to Yahoo but the same thing happened again. My homepage changed to the previous website.

Actually, it happened because my browser (I'm using Internet Explorer) got hijacked by a browser hijacker. It changed my homepage without my permission.

I know most of us are using Internet Explorer as internet browser. But, IE is more vulnerable compared to Firefox and Opera and can be hijack easily.

If this thing happened to you, you should use other browser such as Firefox and Opera. You can also do the following:

1. Scan your computer using Spybot Search & Destroy.

2. Scan using Ad-Aware SE Personal.

If these two software cannot remove the browser hijacker, run HijackThis. You can google it and download it. After that, save your HijackThis log and post it on any tech forum for help.

Spam In Your Inbox?

I'm sure most of us have received spam in our inbox. My advice to you is do not unsubscribe through their unsubscribe link. The reasons? Read below

1. You won't get unsubscribed. (of course)

2. They will noticed that your email address is 'live' and will sell it at a higher value (To another party)

3. You will get more and more spam in your inbox.

4. I don't think the spammers are nice enough and they will removed your email address from their database if you unsubscribe.

If you didn't unsubscribe through their link, your email address won't be flagged as 'live' and you will get less spam in your inbox.

Think again if you want to unsubscribe.

That's all

Building your own PC - Remove Case Cover

By Chuck Lunsford

This is a very easy step. Basically, you are just taking the cover off your new case. If you have a “Plain Jane” case, take a screwdriver and remove the four or six screws located around the edge on the back of your case. Hang on to these screws and put them in a place where they will not be scattered and can be easily found. Once they are removed, the entire case cover comes off in one piece. With this design, the front of the case does not move. Only the top and/or sides come off as a cover. In some newer cases, you may have to pull the front cover off and then unscrew the case sides from the front.

If you have a newer, more expensive case, it may come apart differently. The manufacturers of better made cases have gone to a "screwless" design. With this design, you usually take hold of the bottom of the front bezel of the case and give it a nice solid pull. The front then pulls off. It is my experience that this usually requires a few tries and some muscle. These cases are usually pretty durable. The sides then lift and slide off as does the top. Your case, in essence, comes apart in four pieces. Other cases come apart in a similar way, but after you take the front off, the top and sides come off together.

Each case is a little different in how it comes apart. There are almost as many designs as there are companies that make them. Make it easy on yourself look over the manufacturer insert of instructions. You may find some where you don't even have to remove the front, and rather you just slide the sides off. With others, you can remove the whole motherboard mounting plate and card rack combo from the case by sliding it out the back. This is convenient for making quick changes to the system, although you still have to disconnect the various cables to get it out all the way. Whatever case style you have, remember to look it all over before you attempt to gain entry. You don't want to force it and break anything - take your time. Now that this is done, you are ready to move on.

The Blue Screen of Death

The Blue Screen of Death is an error message displayed by Windows OS.

There are many version of BSoD and in Windows Xp, the blue screen means critical error. So, when you see this in Windows Xp, your computer is in critical condition.

In the earlier version of windows, the blue screen is also displayed when an error happened. However, it is not as critical as windows XP.

The reasons why the BSoD occured are because of software error, driver error and hardware error.

For example if you've installed a program and that program is malfunctioning, then the BSoD will occur and you need to uninstall that program.

Try accessing the windows OS in safe mode. To do this, press the F8 immediately after reboot and you will see the options to start the windows menu. Choose safe mode and windows will run at minimal requirement. Uninstall the program.

If the BSoD occured when you've just inserted a new RAM to the RAM slot, just remove the new RAM and it'll be ok.

If you're experiencing BSoD because you've updated a driver, try rolling back the driver to the previous driver in the safe mode.
Another method is to repair your windows OS using the windows recovering
tools from the installation cd. I've tried this method and it worked!

Just insert the installation cd and perform a scandisk or run the
recovering tool.

However, if all of these tips cannot solve your problem, I think you need to reformat your computer and install a new one.

Oh..I have something to share with you. It's a BSoD screensaver.

Yes, a BSoD screensaver. I love this one..

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Miscellaneous/BlueScreen.mspx

If you don't want people messing with your computer, try running this
screensaver and if they click the mouse button, it won't have any
effect.

Just press ESC to return to your desktop if you're done with the screensaver.

Creating Your Own .pdf

There are two types of ebook, exe and pdf. However, I prefer using pdf. Why? Because not everyone in this world are using the same OS as us, so they maybe can't read the exe file for security reason.

The most widely used ebook type is pdf. When you've finished writing your ebook, you might want to convert it to pdf. But, what software can give you the ability to do so? I recommend you to use these two softwares that I've been using for so long now.

The first one is OpenOffice.org. It has similar functions as Microsoft Office. You can write word document, spreadsheet, presentation and much more. The only thing differ is the name. While Microsoft Office is using names like Word, Excel and PowerPoint, OpenOffice.org uses names like Write, Calc, Impress and so on.

Microsoft Word -OpenOffice.org Writer
Microsoft PowerPoint-OpenOffice.org Impress
Microsoft Excel -OpenOffice.org Calc
Microsoft Access -OpenOffice.org Base

So,basically, anything that you can do with Microsoft Office, you can do it using OpenOffice.org and what's more, it's FREE!

You can get OpenOffice.org at http://openoffice.org

The second software that you can use to convert your word document to pdf is primopdf. Primopdf act as your printer driver and when you want to create a pdf, you just change your printer to primopdf in print properties.

It has two choices, either you want to save the pdf document for print or for screen. Primopdf can also create clickable links in your pdf. But, make sure your links have hyperlinks before
converting it to pdf.

You can get primopdf here http://primopdf.com

Don't worry, even though these two softwares are free, no spyware or adware in these two. So, it's safe for you to download and use it.

That's all

2 Must-Have Softwares For Parents

As a parent, you must be very worried when your children go online. Because maybe some of them will be influenced by the contents of the internet.

Porn, drugs, terrorism, gambling and many more are some of the things that they can access online. But, not all of them wanted to view all of these things intentionally. Maybe while they're searching for some stuff, they encounter some nasty sites. So, how to avoid these things from happening?

I suggest you to use these softwares so your children won't be able to access all the bad stuff.

The first thing that you need is Naomi. Yes, Naomi. It's not a girl's name. It's an advanced filtering software for kids. Naomi not just can filter websites, but it also monitor the whole local internet traffic such as chatting, news reader and web browser.

The most important thing that it's FREE. So, why not you go and try this.

Naomi

One more software that you need is Chat Watch, it will record any chat messages through ICQ, AOL, MSN, Yahoo Messenger and much more.

When your children use a chatting program, this program can be used without his or her knowledge and you can monitor all the conversation to avoid unhealthy conversation.

Well, I'm not saying that you can only use these softwares just on 'kids'. If you want to use it to monitor other people, use at your own risk.

Here's the link to Chat Watch

So, that's all. Happy monitoring

Not Enough Storage To Complete Operation

Recently, when I was trying to open a link from my IE7, I can't right click it and when I left click it, I only got a blank page. I thought it was the website that has a missing link. However, after visiting several websites, the same thing happened.

So, I wonder what's going on. I thought it was a spyware or trojan. Then I opened Ad-Aware SE personal to scan my computer for adware. But, an error message occured "Not Enough Storage To Complete Operation". Well, this is happening because my virtual memory was not high enough. I need to set it higher.

I opened control panel->system->advance->performance setting->advanced and changed my virtual memory setting and set it higher.

After that, I ran my Ad-Aware SE Personal and detect some adwares in my computer. When I opened my IE, the link was clickable. But, not for long because it has happened again.

So, I ran my Spybot Search & Destroy and detect some spywares. After cleaning it, until this moment my computer is ok and everything work fine.

In case this is happening to you, don't panic and change your virtual memory setting, run all your antivirus, spyware and adware scanners.

Two Tips Before Buying Your First Graphic Card

Before buying a graphic card , there are several things that you should know. I'll tell you two things that you should look before buying your first graphic card.

1. Memory

Memory is not everything. Maybe some of us out there will think that it is better if the graphic card has a higher memory. Because it will perform faster and better graphic. Well..you're right and wrong.

You're right if you have a good CPU. Then, the graphic card will perform faster and better. However, if you have a bad or an old CPU, then the graphic card will not perform at optimum level.

2. GPU

Graphic Processing Unit(GPU) is something that you must know before buying a graphic card. A GPU is a dedicated memory for graphic and the two best GPUs are "Nvidia GeForce" or "ATI Radeon".

For the best graphic performance, use these two types of GPU. Basically, you can say the higher the price the better the graphic card is. A graphic card model number is also important.

For example, rather than buying a Radeon X1300 with 512MB, it is better for you to buy a Radeon X1600 with 256MB memory.

If the model number has something like GT,GTX,XT or XTX,it would be better. You also can look at the graphic card box. Sometimes the manufacturer will show the graphic card's speed there.

Hope these helps.
