Cannot Open .Doc Document in Another Computer

Someone asked me why he cannot open .doc documents in another PC. When I checked it, it turns out that the problem lies within the format.

The guy actually used older version of Microsoft Word to write the document and therefore, he cannot open it using another computer with newer version of Microsoft Word.

So, what I did, I just changed the file extension to .docx and the newer version of Microsoft Word managed to open it for editing.

How to change the file extension?

For those who know how, no need to read the next part. But for those who doesn't, here's how.

First, if the file name doesn't have any file extension after its name (name.doc) then you must disable the "Hide File Extension For Known File Types" in folder option. To access folder option, go to Tools-> folder option->View and untick the "Hide File Extension For Known File Types" option.

After you can see the extension(.doc), changed it to .docx and try opening it. But, if you still cannot open it, you can convert it here
or download the Microsoft Compatibility Pack here
